Cowon iAudio A3 (60GB)

The Archos 605 has nothing on this little baby.

Sorry, John, I have to call you on the comparison of this play to the 605. I think the A3 is a power house to be reckoned with. It's a solid PMP. WiFi and bigger hard drive I feel are secondary to the ability to play media well.

I've been taking the A3 through its paces for about 5 days now and I have to say it is one of the best PMPs (or PVP as you call it) out there. Yes, the A3 might look almost exactly like the A2, but the inside is totally different. I tried all kinds of videos and music from different formats and this player never failed to play them.

I do agree with you on the navigation joystick. Pressing down on the stick doesn't always register but over time, I got used to it and was able to apply just the right pressure to the stick to get it to do what I wanted.

My only concern with the A3 is its ability to play 720p videos. I tried both 720p MKV and WMV files and I got really choppy playback out of both formats. Maybe a more powerful chip could've been used for this.

Even though this player is already excellent there are two more things that Cowon could do that make it better. First, it needs a remote. It could output audio and video to the TV but you are required to control it from the player. Lastly, the schedule recording feature could've used some kind of an integrated TV scheduler that automates the recording from TV.

That's it. I'm finishing up my A3 review and will be publishing it on my site, gadgetaholic.com in a few hours. Austin Vaughan of iAudiophile.net is also getting his out tonight. Should be good PR for the A3.
