The good: User-friendly customized interface; 3G; good keypad.

The bad: No HSDPA; no Wi-Fi; no front camera for video calls; poor location of microSD slot.

The bottom line: The most compact Treo available here has some user-friendly features--but because of its lack of some essential connectivity options, that isn't enough to set it apart from other WM6 smart phones already available.

User Reviews

Bought this during GSS and this is my first PDA phone. No complain so far as this is a very basic PDA phone.

Rating: 6 out of 10 (Good)
Pros: Light weight, ergonomic design, & screen is clear.
Cons: Card slot is behind battery, battery needs recharging frequently.
Opinion:
Good start for a first time user like me. No complain as this is a good buy (only S$299) during the recent GSS.

Good but not great

Rating: 6 out of 10 (Good)
Pros: light and thin, good screen resolution, easy to use
Cons: no HSDPA, location of micro sd slot
Opinion:
What I like:
- light and thin
- good screen resolution
- nice user interface
- nice looking phone overall
- support SDHC (tested 4GB)

What sucks:
- no HSDPA
- micro sd slot is under the battery
- only 2 band selections - auto and 2G and you have to soft reset after changing the band

Excellent Smartphone

Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Form Factor, Speed, Call Quality, Great Speaker
Cons: No Wi-Fi, Camera and microSD card Location
Opinion:
My Dopod 818 Pro's USB broke, and the motherboard had to be replaced and cost a bomb, so I took a shot at this Palm Treo 500v. I am not disappointed!

It's quite a good form factor and depending on your needs, it is quite a good smartphone. Battery life is quite good so far. The screen is amazingly clear and sharp with very good contrast. The User Interface is innovative and is quite simple to use once you fiddle with it a few times.

It is so much lighter than the Dopod, which is like a little brick. The Dopod crashes so much it was frustrating. The 500v on the other hand feels good in the hand and pockets, is relatively light, wide enough for my big hands although the QWERTY keyboard takes some getting use to, but I'm getting there... oh, I can type with one finger too while on the touchscreen Dopod, there is no ... Read more
