Not so easy Dial button but good to have one
Jun 3, 2008Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Stylish, Easy to use, Good image quality
Cons: Slip in Dial button, extra sound while zooming in or out
Opinion:
Concern with its dial button, I feel it a little difficult to use. (Should I mean very difficult?)
As I'm a little sweaty person and my hands are easy to sweat. Its dial button let me feel difficult to dial.
Almost every time when I sweat, I ask my friend to dial for me or I just use my clothes as a cover and dial it.
And while I shoot video I use to zoom in and out and the zoom button sound is also recorded. because is it too loud or is it too close with mic?
But anyway, I like this camera. it has good resolution/pixels and IS features and easy to use :)
Impressive physical & digital quality!

Opinion:

excellent camera
Dec 13, 2007Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: excellent pics.
Cons: less flash range
Opinion:
Beautiful camera to look at and own. Small and handy form factor. Excellent pics' in low light and normal lighting the pics are fantastic! Image stabilisation is very good. Only major con is that there is no remaining battery life indicator. One of the best cameras imho.
Smooth appearance and smooth performance
Jul 7, 2007Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Very convenient to use, beauthiful appearance
Cons: Flimsy 'doors', potentially scratch-prone
Opinion:
After many years away from Canon (my last Canon was a Canon A1/f1.4 - 35mm film camera purchased in 1978) and in the interim using Olympus and Nikon point and shoot film and latterly digital cameras - I have at last returned to Canon.
The Digital IXUS 850 is a beautiful camera to carry around and use. It makes me feel good to use it and it takes very good photgraphs. I was completely unprepared for the quality of the video it produces also.
So far I have produced about 1,000 photos over a period of 3 months. I have no specific criticisms other than the chrome-plated plastic doors covering the battery compartment and connectors which are flimsy.
Great Point & Shoot Camera
Dec 17, 2006Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Stylish design, pocket sized, excellent build quality, quick start up, image stabilization, and more.
Cons: Battery and D/C door panels seems flimsy, SD card mechanism not top notch.
Opinion:
After owning 2 Sony Digital Cameras with no image stabilization, I decided that my new cam this year got to have that nifty feature.
I have owned the 850 IS for over 2 weeks now, and I liked it a lot. If you just want something that is simple to use, and don't want to bother about manual controls, then I highly recommend this one. It has great resolution, image stabilization, face tracking, interesting scene modes, good movie mode, fast start up, everything you want in a small fire-cracker of a pocket camera.
The only downside in my opinion will be the battery and D/C door panels. They are a bit flimsy, and should not be made of cheap plastic to simulate metallic, and they should be spring loaded. The only other thing is the SD card mechanism. It is not the best I have seen out there. The SD card do get stuck sometimes.
