Mr. Leslie de Melcher was born and educated in Paris but claims that it is not his fault. ?He lived and worked in New York City for the past 20 years and recently moved to Toronto. He holds a Master's degree in Philosophy from the Universite de Paris (Sorbonne) and an advanced degree in Composition from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, where he won first prize for composition. In addition, he attended Pierre Boulez's seminars at the College de France and?workshops at the IRCAM. ?Previous compositions by Leslie de Melcher include a chamber orchestra work commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture. His string quartet and brass quintet have been published by Symphony Land Music Publishing Company. Film credits include the score for ?Une Licorne de l'Oeil? and numerous scores for television commercials and promotional videos in the U.S.? Musical Highlights include: ?CANUM IV?, an electro-acoustic piece ? as we called those then - performed at the Contemporary Music Festival in Lyons, France; ?L?esprit du Temps?, a cantata for organ, mixed choir, children's choir, soprano, piano and strings, performed at Central Presbyterian Church in New York City; ?L'Appolyon?, for orchestra; ?Nome?, a brass quintet; ?Mad.Brass? for brass orchestra, percussion, and children's choir ? celebrating Madison Square park in New York City with an impressive array of VIPs, ?Monday Nights?, for a large Wind Orchestra.? His most recent work-in-progress-to-be-finished-anytime-as-soon-as-he-finds-funding-right-good-luck-Les is??The Crystal Dome??award winning?Opera 'Extreme' Opera for?digital instruments, laser lights, digital animation (by Peter Lipinski) mixed choir,?live string ensemble and actors.? His latest?performed commissioned work?titled ?Alone,? for digital electronics,?children voices and mixed choir is his first public foray into digital music / digital animation (by P. Lipinski) and was premiered in Toronto earlier this year with a bad sound system. ?All of this while his anti-war piece for electric guitars, ?Delusions? is touring Europe's festivals without any supervision whatsoever.?
