Can the iPhone connect to Draft-N networks like the PSP?

Oct 16, 2008

Question on Music & Play:

Why is the Sony PSP able to connect to 802.11n networks and not PDAs? Would an iPhone or iPod touch be able to connect to a Draft-N network, too?

The Sony PSP uses 802.11b Wi-Fi to connect to wireless networks. 802.11n networks or what we call Draft-N are backward compatible with 802.11b/g devices. That would explain why the PSP can connect to Draft-N networks.

By that same logic, the iPhone and iPod touch are both capable of connecting to 802.11n networks even though they have 802.11b/g Wi-Fi hardware.

I have a Linksys 150N and my ipod touch connects to it just fine. And as John said, due to Draft-N being backward compatible, I dont have problems with my Nokia's, PS3 or 360 either (which use Draft-G).

Btw, any ideas when draft N will strart trickling out into portable devices??
