Which camera for hiking?

Sep 1, 2008

Question on Digicams:

I wish to buy a little camera that I can take with me and capture the everyday moments, but I also wish to bring it with me when I go hiking and capture the magic of nature. Are the Casio Exilim EX-Z150 or S10 good buys? What is the difference between those? Are there other digicams which you think are better for my needs?

If you just need a camera for everyday use, the two Casio models you mentioned are fine. But for more rugged usage while trekking, you may want to consider tougher options.

Olympus' Mju SW-series shooters can withstand shocks from drops of around 1.5m and will be suitable for you to bring to the great outdoors. But of course, they are not the slimmest point-and-shoots around. This is a small compromise to make for an assurance that the camera is fine tumbling around with other things in your bag. The best bet would be to head to your local retailer and handle one of the Olympus cameras to see if they are compact enough for you.
