Aug 29, 2008

Question on Home Entertainment:

I want to buy a Blu-ray player but don't understand what kind of specs I should consider when buying. Can you please give me some guidelines?

Actually, it's quite straightforward these days. If you're not a videophile and plan to use the player mainly for Blu-ray playback, any current set will do. The best value-for-money kit right now is the entry-level 40GB Sony PlayStation 3.

However, if you need good DVD playback, then look out for higher-end models with dedicated video-processing chip. E.g. Panasonic DMP-BD30 and Pioneer BDP-LX70A.

Another consideration is HD surround sound support such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. You'll need a proper A/V receiver to reproduce such high-quality soundtracks, though.

Beware for PS3! The Optic is not good enough! My friends (3 of them) got optic problem when using it for watching Bluray film!

Better u take dedicated Bluray player which designed 100% for movie playback (not both gaming and movie).
