Which digicam takes excellent night shots?

Aug 20, 2008

Question on Digicams:

I'm getting a digicam for myself sometime soon, but at the same time there are so many brands to choose from.

Personally, I've used Sony's camera, however their night shots didnt turn out perfect. Pictures taken with flash, on the other hand, will blind out the background.

Do you have any good recommendations before i jump into purchasing a camera soon?

Most point-and-shoots on the market currently are capable of snapping decent night shots, and the trick is to use the correct mode or settings. Usually, there are Night Scenery and Night Portrait modes and these are optimized settings for taking pictures at night or in dim conditions. It will also decrease the likelihood of an unbalanced flash output which often darkens the background.

If you're looking for a compact that performs exceptionally well in low-light conditions, do give the Fujifilm FinePix F100fd some consideration. Alternatively, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W300 delivered quality night shots, too.

The best way to find out if these cameras are up to your expectations will be to head down to the shop and try it out. Nothing beats seeing the real thing.

How about "Lumix DMC-FX520". people say that the image quality is bad (too much noise). I'm choosing between "CanonIXUS 860 IS" and "Lumix DMC-FX520". Do you have any recommendation?
