Question on Digicams:

What is the best amateur prosumer or dSLR camera under S$1500? I am considering either a Nikon D40 or a Canon S5 IS. Which should I get? I need a bit of zoom.

For dSLRs under S$1,500, check out our budget dSLR guide. All the cameras there are within your budget.

For prosumers, I would recommend the Fujifilm S100FS (S$999), which has a 14.3x optical zoom. I think this is pretty decent already, but if you require more reach, give the Olympus SP-570UZ or Nikon's Coolpix P80 some consideration, as they come with 20x and 18x optical zoom, respectively.

As for the D40 and the S5 IS, I would say they are decent cameras but are a little bit outdated.
