Can the camera performance of Nokia E71 be improved?

Aug 16, 2008

Question on Mobile Phones:

I purchased a Nokia E71 a few days back, the only downside is the camera, which is not good. Pictures are grainy in low-light conditions. Do you think it will improve after a firmware update by Nokia?

Yes, the Nokia E71 doesn't have a fantastic camera and it was never positioned as an imaging phone anyway. It is possible that a firmware update that addresses the image processing algorithms may improve image quality, but I haven't come across any recent cases of manufacturers doing that. The image quality is also dependant on the size of the image sensors used and, in the case of mobile phones, these are really small. Replacing these sensors would require a rather massive "operation" on the phone.

So to answer your question, in a nutshell, I don't think even if a firmware update was available, it would make a huge difference to the image quality.
