Do I need a transformer?

Aug 8, 2008

Question on Home Entertainment:

Will there be a problem if I connect my 220V LCD Sony TV bought in India with a 120V DVD player + A/V receiver + speakers bought from the US provided I connect a 120V to 220V converter to the US stuff?

You will definitely need a step-down or step-up transformer to covert the voltage differences. The equipment will be damaged if you use it directly from incompatible wall sockets.

As for mixing equipment from different regions, do take into consideration the variations in native broadcasting/video formats. India uses PAL, while the US uses NTSC. That said, many products are multisystem-capable out-of-the-box, meaning they can support NTSC as well as PAL. Check with your respective vendors for more details.
