My Pentax camera takes less than 20 shots. Why is this so?

Jul 26, 2008

Question on Digicams:

I have a problem with my Pentax Optio S60. Two AA-sized batteries can last me for less than 20 shots or less than 15 min of video shooting. I never thought of sending it back to Pentax for servicing while the warranty was still valid as I though it's a normal thing for a digital camera until my friend told me there could be something wrong with my camera. May I know if you have heard of similar feedbacks from the other owners with this camera. What can I do?

So far we haven’t heard of similar feedback regarding the Optio S60 but it sounds like your camera has a case of bad power management. Typically, two AA batteries can take about 100 to 200 shots, depending on the camera model and the type of battery used (alkaline, lithium or rechargeable Ni-MH). But if you can only squeeze 20 shots out of a fresh pack of cells, then we suggest that you send the camera for servicing.

Our last check is that Pentax has discontinued the Optio S60, so do check with the company and see if they still service this shooter.

Regular AA Alkaline batteries off the shelf from the pharmacy round the corner can definitely give a very low count... sometimes as low as 20. Ofcourse, such a low number is not acceptable if it is a set of fully charged Ni-MH cells.
Please check the batteries used, and if necessary use a new set of rechargeables fully charged. You may not need to send your camera for servicing.
