Is the image stabilizer on the Nikon P80 effective?

Jul 16, 2008

Question on Digicams:

Does the Nikon Coolpix P80 come with a built-in image stabilizer? If so, is it effective?

The P80 utilizes optical image stabilization and for Nikon, it is known as Vibration Reduction (VR). It worked well when we tested it, but if you intend to max out the zoom at 18x and shoot, I would advise using a tripod as well. This is because at the long end of the lens, small movements will be magnified and sometimes it may negate the effect of the VR.
