SolidAlliance USB Engine Hub

Juniper Foo  |  Jul 26, 2007

Think engine sounds, and the Harley's "potato, potato, potato" rumble comes to mind. To some, it's actually irksome. So if you're not feeling kindly to your aurally challenged sworn office enemy sitting next to your cubicle, check out SolidAlliance's USB Engine Hub. Beats sticking pins into a Dilbert Voodoo doll. This may be USB-powered instead of horsepowered, but it powers on like the real 2-liter deal, complete with vibration and sound effects that range from gear shifts to racing. You control the sound by pushing the kick pedal. It's also just the daily fix that motorbike fans need to rev up their day with. Oh yeah, did we mention it's also a USB Hub?

MX Air Mouse

Juniper Foo  |  Jul 16, 2007

If you've heard Mr Brown's hilarious NGUM (national go up month) podcast in which prices are going north, then it's no surprise that even the modest mouse has gone upmarket in pricing. At US$150 for Logitech's MX Air Mouse, this flying rodent isn't faster than a speeding bullet. At rest, it resembles a beached whale. But in the air, its "Freespace" motion control technology lets users control the onscreen cursor with waves in any direction of up to 30ft from your PC. A bit of Nintendo Wii crossed with a TV remote clicker perhaps? Just in case you prefer something more down to earth, it also has a scroll wheel and a touch-sensitive control strip that's a bit of LG Chocolate's touch-sensitive buttons perhaps?

AMD desktop processors price drop

Darius Chang  |  Jul 10, 2007

In anticipation of its quad-core chips leaving the factory floor next month, AMD is cutting prices off its desktop processors.

According to the new price list, all Athlon 64 X2 processors will be priced at under US$200 (S$303.63), with the high-end FX series going for US$599 (S$909.28) a pair. The FX chips are dual-core processors used on AMD's Quad FX platform to give quad-core performance. Strangely enough, The Athlon 64 FX-74 and FX-72 cost the same despite the disparity in clockspeeds. The slower 2.6GHz FX-70 and FX-62 (dual-core platform only) are also missing from the new list.

Processor Price
Athlon 64 FX-74 (3.0GHz) US$599 (S$909.28) a pair
Athlon 64 FX-72 (2.8GHz) US$599 (S$909.28) a pair
Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.0GHz) US$178 (S$270.20)
Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.8GHz) US$157 (S$238.33)
Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (2.6GHz) US$136 (S$206.45)
Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6GHz) US$125 (S$189.75)
Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (2.5GHz) US$115 (S$174.57)
Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHz) US$94 (S$142.69)
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2GHz; 65W) US$83 (S$125.99)
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2GHz; 89W and 65W) US$89 (S$135.10)
Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (2.1GHz) US$73 (S$110.81)

Compared with street prices available last Friday, the Athlon 64 FX-74 now cost almost half of its previous S$1,929 (US$1,290.91) retail tag. The Athlon 64 X2 series price cuts range from 25 percent to almost 40 percent, not an insignificant amount. Though AMD's global pricing strategy is effective immediately for wholesalers and PC manufacturers in Asia-Pacific markets, on the retail level it may take a little longer to reflect these changes. It should become even more interesting come July 22 when as its rival, Intel, is supposed to announce price cuts for its processors as well.

Belkin Washable Mouse

Juniper Foo  |  Jul 02, 2007

From the washable keyboard to the washable mouse, talk about squeaky clean! We won't advise you to substitute your rubber ducky for this, though, when you next take a bath. The USB-powered optical mouse is only water-resistant. Else you'll have a drowning rat.
