LG's eco-friendly laptop

Darius Chang  |  Dec 14, 2006

Grabbing technology from its flagship Chocolate phone lineup, the LG e-Book goes easy on the environment by drinking less juice.

From its organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) screen and keyboard, to a power cell constructed from biofuel technology, the LG e-Book uses power-saving technology previously confined to smaller devices like mobile phones and MP3 players. The OLED display uses less juice than the traditional back-lit LCD panel, while natural gas, methanol and other eco-friendly liquid fuels replace the Lithium-ion battery. The unique keyboard is made from a single OLED sheet and resembles a larger version of LG's Chocolate phone interface.

For its pains, the Korean conglomerate received a Red Dot Award nomination for "Best Concept Design" for 2006. At this time, there is no information on whether this concept design will be mass produced.
