To hop to music or onto a bus?

Edvarcl Heng  |  Aug 14, 2006

Impatient commuters in Singapore can now drown their tardy anxieties in Ronin's tunes (a local indie outfit)… provided they bring their own earphones. As part of Motorola's marketing efforts for its ROKR E2, five bus stops have been converted into impromptu listening posts from August 10 to September 6. For patient listeners who skip the bus queue for the music line, a phone number will be revealed at the end of a song. SMS to that and one commuter will have an opportunity to go one up on his karaoke-mad neighbor when he wins the chance to host the band in his home.

Get your music dose at the following bus stop locations: Orchard Boulevard (opposite Orchard MRT Station), Victoria Street (in front of Bugis Village), Dunearn Road (outside Nanyang Girls School and National Junior College), Temasek Polytechnic (opposite main entrance) and Somerset MRT (opposite Hotel Phoenix and in front of the skate park).

This one looks plain egg-citing

Edvarcl Heng  |  Aug 10, 2006

Skip the pods. Eggs are much more nutritious than plain old legumes. Especially when this one can sing for your supper. Though the EGGE MP3 player may look appetizing next to a rasher of bacon, it's still not quite dishy enough to poach the crown from the iPod. But it's definitely feature-packed with voice/FM recording and OGG Vorbis playback.

Though there's video support on the 1-inch screen, we think the fellow who thought that one up ought to have his eggs whipped. The screen's so tiny, it would probably scramble our eyesight. But imagine all the karma you would earn during Easter? Easter Bunny, it's time to upgrade your eggs. Read more here

Hello Kitty Mascot MP3 player

Juniper Foo  |  Aug 08, 2006

It's bound to happen. Ms Kitty has officially invaded the MP3 turf, proving that nowhere is safe from Sanrio's most tenacious export. Infatuated fans of the lipless one will likely feel the unexplainable pull to part with more lucre for this cutesy player. Those seeking their first MP3 player may want to tune in elsewhere. This Kitty is more mini mascot than music marvel. For US$110, there are better acoustic options out there. Having said that, this feline stores a decent 60 standard MP3 songs on its 256MB flash memory and is good for up to 6 hours of playtime.

Top of the PoPz

Edvarcl Heng  |  Aug 04, 2006

Though the popular BBC program, Top of the Pops, has ended its long run, we like to think that the Singapore-based company is paying a tribute to it with its PoPz speakers. Announced alongside the Zen Neeon 2, the PoPz speaker is meant to be a lightweight mobile boombox. What's cool is that the speaker pouch and the speakers are melded together in a zippered solution. Very handy. But watch out. As advertised, no batteries are required, so the PoPz is actually a set of passive speakers and will draw power from your MP3 players to play its tunes. Available in four different colors (grey, blue, pink, black). It's priced at S$49 (US$32.79). Get the pictures here

I dream of Jean(nie)

Edvarcl Heng  |  Aug 04, 2006

After a near seven-month wait, the pictures of Levi's enigmatic iPod jeans are finally out. Beautiful, sleek and very Levi's, it's a denim rendition of geek-speak, that for once, will be a good pull for chicks at the Genius Bar. Available worldwide from fall 2006. Only 124 pairs will be available in Singapore.
