Croon to your music on a LEGO

Damian Koh  |  Feb 26, 2008

If LEGO hears about this, it'd probably be up in arms in no time against Homade's range of multicolor MP3 players.

These players not only look like the popular Danish inter-locking brick modeling pastime, it goes one up by incorporating music controls on the raised nubs on the bricks. Each of these goes for US$46 a pop, with memory support for up to 2GB via a microSD card and a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion cell that juices up in 6 hours, though there's no mention of how long it would last on continuous music playback.

Available at Homeloo in bold colors such as green, red, white and yellow, best to snap up one of these before the Feds get their hands on them.

Apple to introduce 2GB iPod shuffle

Reuben Lee  |  Feb 21, 2008

Update: The 2GB iPod shuffle has appeared on Apple's Singapore site. It's listed as "coming soon" and will cost S$108 (US$75.91). Check with your local Apple site or retailer for availability in your country.

After releasing higher-capacity versions of the iPhone and iPod touch earlier this month, it looks like Apple is planning to do the same for its entry-level shuffle range. The new shuffle player will come with 2GB of memory and sport pretty much the same features and design as the current second-generation shuffle player. It is expected to be available later this month in the same five colors offered for the current 1GB offering. The 2GB shuffle will retail for US$69.

Meanwhile, the price of the current 1GB shuffle has been reduced to US$49, down from US$79. A quick check at the Apple Singapore site shows that the shuffle is now being offered at S$78 (US$54.82) instead of the previous S$138 (US$96.99), though there are no indications of a 2GB version anywhere on the Web page. We'll be contacting Apple Singapore for more information, so look out for our updates soon.

New Sony Walkmans with Bluetooth

John Chan  |  Feb 20, 2008

The Sony NW-A800 series of players are pretty well-regarded around here. They give great music quality and, though the screen is small, video playback is decent. That's why we are pretty excited about the NW-A820 series just announced in Japan. These new MP3 players come with Bluetooth so you can use an A2DP wireless headset instead of wired 'phones.

What's more, ever since the NW-A800, Sony players have ditched the evil SonicStage application for a drag-and-drop interface for music transfers. We'd expect that to be true for the A820 as well. This player will max out at 16GB and weigh a mere 59g. We understand that it will reach our region soon, though pricing and a more specific date are not available at the moment.

iRiver's scuba-friendly MP3 player

Reuben Lee  |  Feb 19, 2008

Waterproof MP3 players aren't novel, but iRiver's iFP-380T caught our eye not just for its rather unusual design but that it can go scuba diving with you. At depths of up to 200ft (about 61m) underwater, this device lets you take your music not just into water, but underwater.

The full kit comes with the player as well as a waterproof case and headphone. A removable clip helps keep the headphone securely fastened to the strap of the scuba mask. It's a pity that this can store only about 30 songs due to its limited 128MB storage, but at US$99, it's a small price to pay to have Beyonce or Bon Jovi accompany you on your next dive trip.

Guitar Hero gets a baby brother

Mike Yamamoto  |  Feb 19, 2008
The fact that someone labored to create a Guitar Hero-DS Lite mashup tells us that guitar mania is definitely ready to go mobile. But alas, the aforementioned combo was but a conceptual dream.

Still, there may be something to appease the ever-expanding legions of heroes for the time being in the form of a miniature version created by Basic Fun, apparently with Activision's blessing.

The Guitar Hero Carabiner, which made its debut at the International Toy Fair in New York on Sunday, measures a petite 7.75 long and 3 inches wide, though the neck can fold down to cut its length in half. And if your pockets are already full with your DS Lite and PSP, the carabiner can dangle from your bag or backpack, as Chip Chick notes--though you may want to keep an eye out for moochers trying to sneak a game while you're looking the other way on the bus or subway.

The little guy has its own small LCD so it needs no console or computer to work. And even though it may look like something for Playskool toddlers, it's still far less humilating than yet another rendition of Smoke on the Water via air guitar.
