LG Chocolate MP3: Is it yummy?

Darius Chang  |  Apr 17, 2007

It seems LG is on a mission to eliminate the very existence of physical buttons. Moving on from phones, the touchscreen Chocolate brand is hitting its MP3 line.

The LG Chocolate MP3 Player FM37 eschews buttons. Instead, the smooth device goes for a 2.4-inch touchscreen interface with virtual buttons for all your control needs. It plays back MP3, WMA and OGG music files, with support for MPEG-4, AVI and WMV videos. It comes in black or silver, with a touted battery life of up to 20 hours.

The 2GB LG Chocolate FM37 is now available for S$269 (US$180.02), while the S$369 (US$246.94) model comes with twice as much storage.

Zune 2.0 and flash Zune coming this year?

Lindsey Turrentine  |  Apr 12, 2007

Christmas came early today for the folks at Zune Scene--at least, if their story is true. According to the blog, a chance meeting between an undercover blogger and a Microsoft employee yielded some golden nuggets of Zune news.

Zune 2.0 is coming this year. The hard drive player will be thinner with more capacity, but still stick with the double-shot finish (probably in a number of colors). Parts will be made at a new plant in China, implying that Microsoft won't be buying the player from Toshiba this time around.

Flash Zune is coming, too. According to the report, the smaller (also double-shot) flash player will measure 76 x 31.7 x 6.4mm with the flash memory. Supposedly, this leaves some room for a Wi-Fi antenna and a long, video-capable screen.

All of this sounds mighty alluring--especially the promise of a Wi-Fi and video-ready flash player. But the proof lies in the firmware. Unless Microsoft expands the Zune's Wi-Fi capabilities beyond the weirdly stingy Zune-to-Zune "social" world, no amount of double-shot finish will stand up to Sandisk's Sansa Connect.

Oh yeah, and no word on the Zune phone, yet.

New PVPs from Shiro

John Chan  |  Apr 03, 2007

Singapore-based Shiro Corporation has announced three new PVPs. They are the Shiro VJ, VT and ME2. These players all feature internal flash memory up to 4GB as well as expansion slots in different formats.

The smallest of the three, the ME2, has a miniSD slot and a 1.8-inch display for video playback. The Shiro VJ comes with a full SD slot, allowing you to augment its memory capacity to 4GB with the insertion of a 2GB card. Of the three, the Shiro VT has the largest display, a 2.4-inch one with a screen resolution of 320 x 240. It has support for microSD cards for expansion beyond the internal 4GB flash memory. The VT and VJ players also come with built-in speakers so you can share your music and videos.
