Not quite enough evidence for the Zen phone

John Chan  |  Mar 08, 2007

Creative has a flyer out for the upcoming IT Show in Singapore which lists all the deals and bargains. On the back is a promotional piece for the Creative Xmod which shows a picture of the Xmod attached to a clamshell phone equipped with a Zen interface. With the Apple iPhone already announced, it may not seem far-fetched to think that Creative wants a piece of the mobile phone pie as well.

We spoke to a Creative spokesperson who told us that this was just a mock-up. It is an image Creative created so it can illustrate the fact that you can connect the Xmod to a mobile phone. So, Creative fans hoping to see a Zen phone will have to wait a little longer, if ever.

Tubes for your iPod

John Chan  |  Mar 07, 2007

Generally, we don't associate audiophile-quality music with portable MP3 players. That didn't stop UK-based Roth Audio from coming up with the MC4 Music Cocoon tube amplifier. This is not something you can carry around when riding on the other Tube, but is to be used at home with lossless music files stored on your iPod. Even though it has an iPod dock, this amplifier will support and supposedly improve your music from any player because of the 3.5mm jack audio input. According to the company, you can even hear improved results from compressed audio files. For £399 (US$768), it'd better deliver those results.

Samsung K3 Portable Speakers

John Chan  |  Mar 07, 2007

It looks like just a slip case, but the K3 Portable Speakers does more than just protect the Samsung YP-K3. For starters, the built-in 800mW speakers allow you to share music with your friends, making it work just like the speaker-equipped Samsung YP-K5. To prevent that feature from draining the K3's battery, this slip case also has its own 480mAh Li-polymer battery for belting out tunes up to 19 hours. More info here

Latest and largest Archos

John Chan  |  Mar 06, 2007

If you are not the kind to give up screen real estate for portability, the new Archos 704 WiFi may just tickle your fancy. This PVP sports a behemoth 7-inch touchscreen LCD, with a resolution of 800 x 480. In true Archos style, a host of formats are supported for videos and music, all of which can be stored in its 80GB hard drive. As its name suggests, this PVP also features Wi-Fi as well as an Internet browser to take advantage of that.

More information should be on the way, but there is one thing we can say for now--the 704 WiFi is unlikely to fit in most pants pockets.

Sony "resurrects" Watchman

John Chan  |  Mar 02, 2007

Rumors regarding Sony launching a video Walkman have turned out to be true after all. Resembling the A-series less the OLED display, the NW-A800 series instead goes with a 2-inch, 240 x 320 screen. Though it doesn't have a widescreen aspect ratio, it'll do if you want to catch up on recorded television programs on-the-go.

Rated to playback videos for up to 6 hours, it's super slim at just 8.3mm, and come in capacities of 2GB (why even bother?), 4GB and 8GB. And no, they don't let you watch over the air television like the 1982 Sony Watchman. At the same time, new thumbdrive-sized players have also been announced. The Sony Walkman NW-E010 series can give up to 30 hours of music playback in one charge and comes in three different storage capacities--1GB, 2GB and 4GB. Read more here.
