Shiro goes very video at CeBIT 2007

Shiro seems to be looking toward portable video players to bolster its market share, right in line with industry trends, too. Three new models will be unveiled and, from what we can see, design-wise, all three will bear very different looks. The flagship Shiro VE comes with a 2.4-inch display and a microSD slot, while the MK has 1.8-inch screen, built-in speakers and SD/MMC expansion. The ME, on the other hand, combines a miniSD card slot with a 1.8-inch LCD. All three models will feature FM radio, voice recording and picture display as well. Read all about it here

Gresso Symphonia: Luxurious music

Russian firm Gresso obviously knows it's going to be an uphill task going one up against established MP3 manufacturing stalwarts like Creative and iriver. So rather than rattling the features saber at the competition, Gresso is pulling out a ruby-encrusted one. The Symphonia is a barebones MP3 player with a showy virtue. Made of 200-year-old African Blackwood and accented with 18K white or pink gold, the squarish Symphonia measures 38 x 38mm in size. But while its size is diminutive, its price tag certainly is not. At US$4,000 to US$6,500 for a 1GB unit, that's a lot of cash to fork out. But since the African Blackwood tree is under the ICUN Red list of Threatened Species, it may be the price one pays for rarity.

NW-A800: Sony nano Walkman?

According to ATRACLife, a blog about all things Sony, fans of the Japanese firm will see the launch of its first video Walkman (outside of China) on March 1 in Germany. While Sony Electronics Asia Pacific would not comment on the new player, the aforementioned blog certainly had something to say. The NW-800 will follow the NW-A series form factor, be nano-slim and will be available in four colors: Black, blue, pink and violet. While further details will be known only on March 1, we won't be biting our nails. After all, we have been waiting years for this particular product announcement, so eight more days would hardly matter.

Walking to the beat

The Sneaker Cozy Tunes Pillow looks like a bastardized Converse canvas shoe. Call it deconstruction, but it's something we would be hard put to walk in. The manufacturer thinks we would enjoy sleeping with music in our ears, but on a shoe? We don't know about you, but we know the family dog likes to rest its head on our Timberlands. Connects to any MP3 player with a 3.5mm audio jack and comes with a built-in speaker, but for any other tech features, don't hold your breath.

SOAON i-Musicer: A freaking iPod dock

Most iPod docks differ in little regard from each other. Most of the time, we think they are cookie-cut from the same plastic. While SOAON's version offers something special in the form of an SD/MMC slot (for music playback), it presents little else in terms of features from the standard iPod alarm clock/dock we've sampled. There's video-out if you own an iPod video, FM radio and a remote control on top of that. But take heart in the design of this little number. It looks cool enough to jazz up any teenager's bedroom.
