Keitaide Video KV-900

Juniper Foo  |  Sep 21, 2005

This odd pyramidal device caught Gadget Buzz's eye at a Bic Camera shop in downtown Shibuya, Tokyo. It took a while to have the brochure translated, but the mystery was solved when the Keitaide Video was revealed to be a unique type of video recorder. This gizmo essentially records MPEG-4 from any source (camcorder, DVD recorder, etc.) onto an SD or miniSD card in 3gp format. From there, the user can drop the card into any 3gp-compatible handset and play it straight off the phone. There's an onboard timer on this gizmo as well should you want to auto-record a program from a VCR. A 128MB media is apparently good for up to 2 hours of high-res recording. We didn't get to test it, but we certainly like the idea that you can now record that evening program, plonk the SD card into your phone the next morning, and watch Amazing Race while commuting to work. Nice!
