About the writer

Music phones are going to be a big thing. So big it's got the iPod pondering whether it should exchange its Click Wheel for a dialing pad. For big sound, the iPod's got the iPod Hi-Fi, but the Walkman phone? There's always the Sony Ericsson Music Desk Stand MDS-60. It's a bit of a mouthful, though it's a swell speaker to get your phone rocking and charging at the same time.

Blast it

Sleek and grey, it would be just the thing to tote along to the office. The four neodymium drivers ought to be loud enough to irritate everyone within a 4m radius. And just as well that it's small; at least it won't take up too much space in your box when they send you packing. Available by Q3 2006.

Tech specs:

  • Dimensions: 205 x 120 x 30mm
  • Simultaneous charging of phone during music playback
  • Integrated FM antenna
  • Four neodymium drivers
  • Battery and AC-powered
  • Detachable cover
