A green Olympics by Haier

I have no idea why I don't own any Haier products. We see it everywhere around us--on billboards, in shops, etcetera. It is one of the best-known Chinese brands in the world.

Haier is supplying all venues of the Beijing Olympics with 13,236 green refrigerators, 1,500 green washing machines, 2,864sqm of solar power panels and fitting each venue with green air-conditioners.

The fourteen laptops that meet the EPEAT Gold Standard

The EPEAT Registry includes products that have been declared by their manufacturers to be in conformance with the environmental performance standard for electronic products--IEEE 1680--2006 and EPEAT operates a verification program to assure the credibility of the Registry.

A new EPEAT verification report came out in June 2008 and, according to this, of the 250 laptops that made it to the registry, 14 did even better--they made it to the EPEAT Gold Standard registry.

Just how sincere is HP?

As you know, I'm in the market for a new laptop. I have asked friends who know better which brand I should get and one name that has popped up a few times: HP. I've also had the chance to chat with various folks who work for HP and I've heard from them about the great effort HP has made to go green. Apparently, this change is permeating every step of the workflow--from conceptualizing to creating, to designing, manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, sales, etcetera.

Why I'm glad I held off buying my notebook--the difference between Intel Centrino and Intel Centrino 2

I have been needing to get a new laptop for months, but everytime I am about to make a purchase decision someone will come along and advise me to hold my horses for a wee bit longer. Am I so glad to have followed that advice, because now, my new laptop will have the Intel Centrino 2 processor inside!

How do you send a file that is bigger than 750MB?

I can't remember the last time I used my CD burner. It must have been back before I bought my first USB thumbdrive--eons ago. Yesterday, I needed to send a file as large as 750MB to a friend. I couldn't possibly email a file that size, so we discussed and decided that the most efficient way was for me to burn it onto a CD and post it to him.
